Paralegal

Job Description: The department of Risk Management and Compliance at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) seeks a Paralegal to support the in-house legal, risk management and compliance departments. This position reports to the Chief Legal Affairs Officer and is based at PCOM’s Philadelphia campus with occasional travel to PCOM’s Georgia campus. The paralegal will be responsible for, and involved in a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to corporate governance, compliance, transactions, litigation and other matters.
In addition, this position will assist in all phases of contract preparation and administration, including preparation, reviewing, and proofing of service, vendor, non-disclosure and other agreements. Will assist in the preparation for, and the closing of transactions, and the investigation of compliance issues and employment claim matters. Will assist in preparation for board meetings and perform other corporate governance tasks for PCOM and subsidiaries. Will establish and maintain a contracts data base and support records retention, litigation holds and document productions. Will communicate regularly with outside attorneys regarding the status of projects and deadlines, and other duties and legal research as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required, and Paralegal certification preferred. Must be able to effectively work with senior personnel, faculty board members, and outside counsel. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Must have the ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities with a sense of urgency.
*Must be familiar with HIPAA and other confidentiality and privacy laws
*Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Health care, higher education or previous in-house experience preferred.
*Must have a minimum of five years of experience as a corporate or generalist paralegal.
